Violent robber who left woman, 78, for dead in pool of blood at her Alicante home is jailed for 8 years
The elderly victim sustained "life endangering" injuries after jewellery was ripped from her neck and wrists at her home on the Costa Blanca in 2021

A 36-year-old violent house robber who left an elderly Alicante woman in a pool of blood with "life endangering" injuries after viciously ripping jewellery from her neck and wrists has been jailed for eight years.
The 78-year-old victim was found by a relative lying on the floor with a horrific neck wound on the afternoon of November 11, 2021. She was given life-saving first aid before being taken to hospital in a "serious condition" where she was operated on and remained in ICU for several days.
Despite her injuries, the victim was able to give police a good description of her attacker and he was soon identified.
Alicante Provincial Court heard the woman was "stalked" on her way home from shopping, and targeted as she entered the main entrance to her block of flats.
The robber initially offered to help the pensioner to her front door, but when she refused, he became violent and pushed her indoors, demanding she "give him everything she had".
He then tore a necklace worth 150 euros from her neck and a bracelet from her wrist, leaving her in a pool of blood on the floor before fleeing.
The prosecution argued that "the defendant left the woman's home fully aware that her injuries were life-threatening".
The 36-year-old pleaded guilty at the beginning of the hearing, held on January 19, 2023, after reaching an agreement with the Prosecutor's Office.
He was sentenced to eight years in prison, and must not approach the victim for a further minimum period of six years. In addition, he was ordered to pay the elderly woman 15,000 euros in compensation for the injuries inflicted and 160 euros for the items stolen in the robbery.
