ARCHIVED - Elderly woman seriously hurt during violent robbery at her Alicante home
The 78-year-old suffered "life endangering" injuries after jewellery was ripped from her neck and wrists at her home on the Costa Blanca

Alicante National Police have arrested a 36-year-old man after a woman in her 70s was violently attacked and sustained "life endangering" injuries during a robbery at her home in which jewellery was ripped from her neck and wrists.
The victim, 78, was found lying in a pool of blood by a relative at around 1.20pm on Thursday November 11, and immediately called emergency services.
Police sources confirmed the elderly woman had a large cut on her neck, which was "bleeding profusely". She was given potentially life-saving first aid before being taken to hospital in an ambulance, and despite her "serious condition", managed to give officers a description of her attacker.
She also told police the suspect approached her as she entered the main entrance to her block of flats. The robber allegedly offered to help the victim to her front door, but when she refused he became violent and pushed her indoors, threatening her with violence if she didn't "give him everything she had".
He then tore her necklace from around her neck, causing a large gash, and her bracelets from her wrists, also wounding the victim.
A large search operation was launched, involving several patrols, including a squad from the Prevention and Reaction Unit (UPR) and the suspect was located nearby and arrested. The bloodied stolen jewellery was discovered stashed inside his trousers.
The Violent Crime Group of the Provincial Judicial Police Brigade of Alicante has taken over the investigation to determine whether there are other victims.
The elderly woman, who was admitted to the emergency room in serious condition, is now in a stable condition in hospital, recovering from her injuries.
The National Police is warning the public to be wary of strangers in and around entrances to properties, at cashpoints and anyone attempting to gain entry to homes. They are advised to call 091 immediately.
