Keep the kids busy this August with free workshops at Cartagena's Museum of Modern Art
Three creative sessions running every week until the end of August, all free and open to children aged 6 to 12
August is ticking by, but there's still time to take advantage of one of the better free activities on offer for children in Cartagena this summer. The Regional Museum of Modern Art has been running weekly workshops every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday throughout the holidays, and with a handful of sessions still to come before September arrives, it's worth getting in touch today. Each workshop has its own distinct theme, all aimed at children aged 6 to 12, led by museum staff and running from mid-morning to early afternoon. Places are capped at just 12 children per session, so availability is limited.
Thursdays bring a treasure hunt through the Aguirre Palace, where children follow clues, solve challenges and uncover stories hidden within the artworks. It's a playful way to explore a genuinely beautiful early 20th-century building, and the kind of morning that tends to win over even the most museum-resistant child. Sessions run from 11.30am to 1.00pm, and today's session is still available to book.
Wednesdays take a creative turn, with a workshop built around the photography of Carlos Gallego. Children explore his exhibition through games before heading to a workshop where they make their own personalised camera to take home. Sessions run from 11.00am to 1.00pm.
Tuesdays focus on the museum's permanent collection, with a workshop called The Hidden Gaze that teaches children to look more carefully at paintings and sculptures and find the stories beneath the surface. The session ends with a hands-on creative activity. Also 11.00am to 1.00pm.
All three workshops are completely free. The minimum number of participants is five and the maximum is twelve, so spaces really are limited with only days of August remaining.
To book, call 968 501 607, visit the museum in person, or email muramcartagena@gmail.com. Don't leave it too long.
