ARCHIVED - Benidorm unveils its giant 22-metre high LED billboard tower
The 'Tecnohito' information tower will display adverts and events in Benidorm's Avenida del Mediterráneo
Almost a year behind schedule, Benidorm has unveiled its new 22-metre billboard and information tower, featuring LED-powered high definition images, in Avenida del Mediterráneo that took 11 months to construct.
Located at the junction of Plaza Triangular and Calle Esperanto Esperanto, the 13 million-euro structure will not only become a resort landmark and viewpoint, open to the public to enjoy the panoramic views, but it will also act as a digital screen for advertising campaigns, informative initiatives, live shows and events.
Unveiling the tower, reminiscent of those found in New York's Times Square, Piedad Siegfried, Commercial and Marketing Director of Exterior Plus, the firm behind the promotion of the structure, explained that "this innovative solution allows us to offer our advertisers a unique screen with the latest technology and drive outdoor digital advertising to another level."
The inauguration of the Tecnohito coincided with the Eurovision Song Contest and the event was screened live through the hundreds of LED panels.
There were also several live performances ahead of the final, a huge occasion in Benidorm since the resort was selected to announce Spain's vote, giving the new tower exposure on an international level.
And on Sunday, it was used to commemorate the centenary of the birth of former Benidorm Mayor, Pedro Zaragoza.
The tower completes an extensive remodelling programme in Avenida del Mediterráneo which was closed to traffic for more than a month at the end of last year with major diversions so that the techno-landmark could be installed. New futuristic lighting has been erected as part of the scheme and areas have been pedestrianised.
In addition to advertising the Tecnohito, Exterior Plus is also responsible for the information management of the Tecnoparada inaugurated in 2021, an avant-garde bus shelter with the latest technology. The company currently markets more than 50,000 faces of outdoor advertising supports across Spain, and more than 90 shopping centres.
