ARCHIVED - Benidorm will host Eurovision Song Contest party for 4,000 people with live music
Three giant screens in Benidorm's Plaza de la Hispanidad will stream the final from Turin on Saturday May 14
Back in January, the first Benidorm Fest was held during which Chanel was chosen as Spain's Eurovision representative. And now, Benidorm will host a mammoth Eurovision Song Contest party with live acts and three giant screens which will be erected in Plaza de la Hispanidad to stream the final in Turin on May 14.
The huge event, with a capacity for 4,000 people, is being co-organised by the Town Hall with state broadcaster RTVE, and from 7pm a DJ will take to the stage for a Eurovision-themed set, followed by live performances from Benidorm Fest semi-finalists. Marta Sango, Javiera Mena, and Unique.
Euro-fans will then be treated to a giant screening of the Song Contest final from 9pm
"This will be a party dedicated to Eurovision and having the invaluable collaboration of RTVE with Nieves Álvarez broadcasting the Spanish jury's decision will give Benidorm a special role that night. This will be an important tourist moment for the promotion of Benidorm," said town mayor, Toni Pérez.
He added that assembly of the stage in Plaza de la Hispanidad will begin on Friday May 13, and "all efforts will be made to minimise disruption". Meanwhile, the plaza will be cut off to the traffic from 5pm the following day ahead of a night of music.
