ARCHIVED - Youths fined for hurling fruit at people and vehicles in Callosa de Segura
The parents of four minors in the Vega Baja town must stump up 400 euros each for the ongoing "nuisance" behaviour

A gang of four youths who allegedly threw oranges and lemons at unsuspecting members of the public and vehicles in the Barrio del Palmeral area of Callosa de Segura have been slapped with 400 euro fines each, which because of their age, will have to be paid by their parents/guardians.
According to Local Police, residents and motorists have been plagued by the vandals for several months, and officers are confident that after several police investigations, they have identified those responsible.
"A fine of 400 euros has been issued for each alleged offender, and as the offenders are minors, their parents/guardians are vicariously liable for their children," said police sources, adding that their actions "will not be overlooked because they are young."
"Whilst their actions have not been of high gravity, the group has caused a lot of nuisance to neighbours and passers-by for months now, and this type of behaviour will not be tolerated".
The police stressed that the concept of coexistence, education and respect go hand in hand, and "anyone who does not comply with the rules of coexistence will be subject to the penalties for non-compliance. It's as simple as that".
A 42-year-old man was arrested in Callosa on Sunday after an elderly woman's handbag was stolen during a violent robbery. Thankfully, good Samaritans came to her aid and detained the suspect until police arrived and arrested him.
