ARCHIVED - Yellow alert for heatwave: part of Alicante will swelter in up to 37ºC this week
The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has issued a warning for extreme temperatures in Alicante on Tuesday June 14
As the mercury continues to rise across Spain with the onset of the earliest heatwave the country has seen since 1981, extreme temperatures are expected in parts of Alicante where the thermometers will rise to 37ºC this week.
The province escaped the worst of the sizzling temperatures at the weekend, but according to the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), things will hot up this week and a yellow alert has been issued for Tuesday June 14.
Monday June 13 will start with cloudy spells of clear skies and a significant rise in minimum temperatures in coastal areas. Light variable winds will make the heat feel slightly more intense.
- Alcoy: 20ºC to 36ºC
- Alicante: 23ºC to 30ºC
- Denia: 19ºC to 32ºC
- Elche: 19ºC to 34ºC
- Orihuela: 19ºC to 35ºC
Low cloud will prevail early on Tuesday June 14, with possible dust in suspension from midday onwards. The mercury will rise significantly in coastal areas where easterly winds will be stronger.
- Alcoy: 21ºC to 37ºC
- Alicante: 23ºC to 32ºC
- Denia: 20ºC to 33ºC
- Elche: 21ºC to 35ºC
- Orihuela: 21ºC to 37ºC
Interior areas of the province can expect low or high cloud for much of Wednesday June 15 with possible dust in suspension, but temperatures will remain particularly high in northern parts. Winds will remain light and variable.

- Denia: 21ºC to 34ºC
- Elche: 21ºC to 35ºC
- Orihuela: 21ºC to 37ºC
Not much change is forecast for Thursday June 16; partly cloudy with suspended dust, although the Vega Baja area will see maximum temperatures fall just slightly.

- Alicante: 24ºC to 32ºC
- Denia: 21ºC to 33ºC
- Elche: 22ºC to 35ºC
- Orihuela: 22ºC to 35ºC
