ARCHIVED - VIDEO: Pod of dolphins show off spectacular acrobatic skills off Benidorm beach
A lucky passerby aboard a sailing boat captured the incredible footage off the coast of the Costa Blanca's tourist capital
A pod of agile dolphins put on quite a show for passengers aboard a sailing boat close to Benidorm beach, clearly enjoying the water and showing off their immense acrobatic skills.
Giving true meaning to "being in the right place at the right time", one lucky seafarer grabbed his camera and captured the mesmerising water dance, made all the more impressive visually by the infamous Benidorm skyline of skyscrapers in the background.
A mauve hue colours an almost idyllic landscape, and the elegant flight of seagulls completes a natural scene that is truly breathtaking. And thanks to technology, the moment has been captured forever and shared on social networks for all to enjoy.
The man behind the camera is clearly captivated and can't believe his luck, his screams of joy audible as the playful dolphins enjoy their natural habitat and leap into the air, flaunting their aquadynamics, cutting spectacular silhouettes against a dramatic backdrop.
Dolphins are not an uncommon sight off Alicante coast, and on-water sightings are always wonderful as is the opportunity to watch them interact underwater.
Back in November, the Proyecto Mastral platform shared one such magical sighting on social media, with footage captured off the coast of Cabo Roig, Orihuela Costa.
The remarkable close-up footage was taken by Eric Gendarme, whose feet can be seen dangling over the back of the boat as several dolphins glide through the water below before surfacing.
Earlier this week, a disorientated 17-metre whale with a spinal deformity was spotted off the coast of Cullera, Valencia.
