ARCHIVED - Valencia incidence rate drops below 500: Covid update August 9
4,139 new positives in the region's three provinces, including Alicante, as the active cases drop to 24,821
The number of new Covid cases reported in Valencia over the weekend is over 4,000 once again, after Friday and Thursday’s updates reported 2,060 and 2,073 cases, respectively.
Of the 4,139 new cases, 1,829 were reported in the Alicante province, 1,841 in the Valencia province and 469 in Castellón.
The cumulative incidence rate per 100,000 inhabitants in the past has fallen drastically since Friday (515.09) and is now 487.09; well-below the national average of 549.06.
However, despite the drop in the incidence rate, the Valencia region is still fully immersed in the fifth wave and the regional health system has speed up the vaccination campaign to combat the virus, with over 160,000 teenagers booked to get their jab this week.
Vaccines: in total, 3,437,179 people have received at least one Covid jab in the Comunidad Valenciana, while 2,911,405 people have been fully immunized; 5,427 more than in the previous update on August 6.
Active cases: the new cases reported in the latest update bring the total number of active cases in the region up to 24,821.
Recoveries: 5,460 people have been given the all-clear since Friday, August 6.
Fatalities: there have been five deaths recorded in the last seven days, meaning the total stands at 7,535: 2,866 in Alicante province, 3,853 in Valencia; and 816 in Castellón.
