ARCHIVED - More than 160,000 teens aged 16 to 19 to be vaccinated this week in Valencia
The age group will receive mainly Pfizer jabs in the region's three provinces, including Alicante
Over 160,000 teenagers aged between 16 and 19 have booked Covid vaccine appointments for the upcoming week in the region of Valencia.
The vaccination appointments for this age group opened last week, after the regional Ministry of Health decided to accelerate the inoculation campaign to combat the fifth wave.
In the next seven days, 378,382 doses of the Pfizer vaccine will be administered in the region; around 67 per cent of these will be destined for people aged between 16 and 39.
And the remaining Pfizer jabs will be for people who had Covid when they were due to get their first shot, for people awaiting their second jab, for new members of the healthcare system and for people from older age groups who have not yet been vaccinated.
Meanwhile, 63,974 doses of Moderna vaccine have been earmarked for the vaccination of people aged between 16 and 49.
Just under 5,000 doses of AstraZeneca are destined for over 60s who are waiting for their second jab.
In addition, 515 single doses of Janssen will be used to inoculate people from specific groups or people who have need to travel internationally.
The Health minister, Ana Barceló, has mentioned that the new accelerated vaccination campaign means that the region is “very close” to achieving herd immunity and she also detailed that under 16s need their parents’ permission to receive the vaccine.
They must be accompanied by their legal guardian to the appointment or have written permission, while 16-year-olds can be vaccinated without a parent present.
Last week, the Ministry of Health in Valencia urged pregnant women to get vaccinated as soon as possible to prevent complications for both the mother and the baby.
