ARCHIVED - Valencia Covid update ahead of relaxed restrictions: September 27
The region, including Alicante province, moves into the next phase of a return to normality from September 28
As the Valencian Government announces new relaxed anti-Covid measures from Tuesday September 28, which will see increased capacity levels, extended opening hours and dancing in nightclubs, the Ministry of Health has reported 457 new Covid cases in its latest update.
However, it must be noted that while the number of new infections confirmed in today’s update is significantly higher than the 230 reported on Friday September 24, they have been confirmed by PCR over a period of 72 hours.
According to the Valencia Government, there has been a “significant improvement” in the region’s epidemiological situation, which coincides with the near completion of the vaccination campaign.
The 14-day cumulative rate now stands at 50.54 cases per 100,000 people, below the national average of 65.42, and that of the neighbouring Region of Murcia (84.57) and Andalucia (56.79).
As such, the Generalitat has confirmed that after 18 months, face-to-face primary care will finally return to normal in all health centres from Monday October 4.
But Valencian president, Ximo Puig, has assured that anybody who wishes to continue to opt for telematic consultation will be able to do so.
Puig has also promised that infrastructures will be improved over the next two years, with 50 new primary care centres and the renovation or expansion of 22 hospitals following an investment of 658 million euros.
A breakdown of the latest health data shows:
New cases
A further 457 new cases have been reported in the Valencia region, up from 230 on Friday September 24, bringing the total number of positives since the beginning of the pandemic to 509,424. By province: 70 in Castellón (52,923 in total); 209 in Alicante (186,790 in total); and 178 in Valencia (269,709 in total). There are still two unassigned cases.

550 people have recovered from Covid since the last update, meaning that to date, 510,481 people in the Valencian region have overcome the virus. By province: 53,284 in Castellón; 186,414 in Alicante; and 270,726 in Valencia.
Hospitalisations
There are currently 185 people admitted to hospitals in the three provinces, up slightly from 181, 554 of whom are being treated in ICUs: 25 in the province of Castellón, seven in ICU; 73 in the province of Alicante, 22 in ICU; and 87 in the province of Valencia, 25 of them in ICU.

There have four deaths reported since Friday – three in the last week and one in August – meaning the total now stands at 7,782 since the start of the pandemic: 843 of these fatalities have been recorded in Castellón; 2,986 in Alicante; and 3,953 in the province of Valencia.
Vaccinations
A total of 4,048,394 people have now received one dose of vaccine, and 3,941,153 people are fully immunised with two doses of Pfizer, Moderna or AstraZeneca, or the single-dose Janssen.
The largest mass vaccination sites in the region will close on Tuesday September 28 after “having fulfilled their mission” of immunising the majority of the population against coronavirus. Jabs will still be administered at health centres.
