ARCHIVED - Three foreign nationals arrested for growing over 700 cannabis plants in a house in Cox
A large marijuana plantation was discovered at a Cox warehouse by the narcotics group of Orihuela National Police
Three foreign nationals have been arrested after a large marijuana planation was found in a warehouse on an industrial estate in Cox in the Vega Baja region of Alicante province.
The narcotics group of Orihuela National Police seized 721 cannabis plants and arrested three Albanian men aged 38, 39 and 44 on suspicion of drug trafficking.
The building had no official industrial or commercial activity, but police received a tip-off there was light inside and movement during the early hours. In addition, there were several extractor pipes from air ventilation machines from which a smell characteristic of this type of plantation was emanating.
Believing there was a hydroponic marijuana plantation in various stages inside, in full production 24 hours a day, the narcotics group raided the warehouse and discovered two plantations with 721 plants in an advanced state of growth weighing approximately 900 kilos.
The three detainees were handed over to the Examining Magistrate's Court in Orihuela.
