French national fined 1,000 euros for parking on Benidorm beach

The culprit behind the bizarre and amusing incident in which a car was found parked on the Playa del Poniente beach in Benidorm last Sunday has been found.

According to the spokesman for the Local Benidorm Police force, Quique Tortosa, the driver of the Mercedes-Benz is of French nationality and the City Council has announced that they will impose a fine of almost 1,000 euros.

The vehicle got stuck in the sand at the end of the beachfront promenade, near Avenida Vicente Llorca Alós, after it drove down the pedestrian walkway and onto the beach, from where it had to be towed when it was impounded.

The driver will be fined 200 euros for negligent driving, another 150 euros for prohibited entry and more than 500 euros for irregularities in their documentation required to drive in Spain, as well as 60 euros for the tow truck callout.
