ARCHIVED - Three elderly people injured in crash on the N-332 in Orihuela Costa
There were huge tailbacks following the collision in the Vega Baja coastal town
Three elderly people were injured in a two-car crash on the N-332 in Orihuela Costa on Wednesday afternoon, July 13.
The nasty collision happened near the water treatment plant at around 5pm causing huge tailbacks as firefighters and medics assisted the wounded.
One of the victims, an elderly woman, had to be freed from her vehicle via the rear window, "the safest way to avoid further injury or damage", according to Alicante Firefighters' Consortium. She was then taken to a nearby hospital.
A basic life support team (BLS) also treated an elderly couple who were travelling in the other vehicle for various contusions.
Six firefighters from Torrevieja Fire Station, two pumps and a rescue van were involved in the emergency response and clear-up operation.
Certain sections of the N-332 are considered 'accident hotspots', in particular a stretch between Alfaz del Pi and Albir in the Marina Baixa area of Alicante province where major road safety improvements will be carried out early 2023.
