Small earthquake recorded off the coast of Alicante
The 2.4-magnitude quake hit close to Bou Neu beach in the Marina Baixa town of Villajoyosa
The quaint town of Villajoyosa, just 15 kilometres from Benidorm, was rumbled by an earthquake measuring 2.5 on the Richter scale on Saturday morning, October 7.
According to the National Geographic Institute, the epicentre of the quake was registered off the coast of Bou Nou Beach at 11.33am at a depth of 15 kilometres.
This is the 78th seismic movement recorded in the province of Alicante so far this year. In the Marina Baixa area alone, four quakes measuring more than 1.5 degrees have been felt by residents, which is the same number as in 2022.
The Bou Nou coastline is no stranger to seismic activity either, and the last earthquake recorded in the very same area occurred on August 6 of last year, measuring a magnitude of 1.5.
