Saturday Dec 2 Benidorm unveils its Christmas decorations with a few surprises
Benidorm’s famous giant Three Wise Men have found a new home this festive season
The Christmas festivities in Benidorm kick into high gear this weekend with several days packed full of activities for all the family between December 2 and 6. The iconic Christmas House in l’Hort de Colón will throw open its doors for the first time at 6pm on Saturday and just an hour later, the city will be lit up during the big switch-on of the lights.
Saturday’s 'Beninadal 2023' will centre around Plaza de SSMM Los Reyes de España and visitors will be spoiled for choice with a variety of children’s shows, dances and music. As always, the square will be home to the ice rink, Christmas market and Santa will also make an appearance.
Benidorm will have four huge nativity scenes this year; the best known will be given pride of place in Reyes de España while the other three can be seen outside the Ayuntamiento, at the Casa de Andalucia and the ACR La Barqueta.
The La Barqueta nativity is a special fixture as it depicts all kinds of historical and everyday scenes from across Spain with more than 20 moving pieces. All of the nativity scenes in the city will be set up from December 6.
Children will be able to drop their wish lists into the Christmas House between January 2 and 4 where they will be collected by the Royal Postman ahead of the Three Kings Parade on the 5th.
Santa will also take up residence in the Christmas House and will welcome the kiddies to visit between December 18 and 24.
As a novelty this year, the iconic giant Three Wise Men statues will be moved to the Foietes park to spread the Christmas cheer further around Benidorm. This new tradition will continue in the future, and the 10-metre figurines will be erected in a different part of the city each festive season.
“We want them to be in a different place in the city each year to bring the Christmas atmosphere to more places,” Festival Councillor Mariló Cebreros explained.
