ARCHIVED - Renfe further increases Madrid-Alicante AVE links with two new connections
A new high-speed link between Alicante and Spain's capital was launched last December

Spain's national train operator Renfe is once again increasing the frequency of AVE trains between Madrid and Alicante with two new services from March 27.
The move comes just four months after the rail firm increased high-speed connections with Spain's capital to 26, 13 in each direction.
The first new service from the end of March is a direct one that will run daily, except on Saturdays. A second will operate on Saturdays, departing from Madrid and stopping at Cuenca Fernando Zóbel, Albacete Los Llanos and Villena A.V. stations.
For the moment, there have been no new services announced for the Region of Murcia, which saw its first Madrid-Murcia AVE link launched on December 20, 2022.
Tickets are already on sale for the new Madrid-Alicante AVE services which represents an increase of 2,500 seats per week between the two cities, increases that have been made in the most demanded time slots.
The direct AVE will depart from Madrid Chamartín at 3pm and the Saturday service, with intermediate stops, will leave Chamartín at 4pm.
The extended frequencies coincide with the launch of Renfe's low-cost Avlo Alicante-Madrid service which also hits the tracks on March 27.
It will offer four daily services, two in each direction, with a daily provision of 1,436 seats. There will be a stop in Albacete and two Avlo trains, one in each direction, will also stop in Cuenca Fernando Zóbel and Villena Alta Velocidad.
With the new AVE and Avlo services, the daily offer of high-speed trains between Alicante and Madrid is increased to 28, 14 in each direction: 10 AVE trains in each direction; 2 Alvia trains in each direction; and 4 Avlo trains, 2 in each direction.
