ARCHIVED - Renfe launches new high-speed link between Alicante and Madrid from December 11
The AVE service will run between Alicante and Spain's capital from Monday to Thursday

Spain's national rail company Renfe is increasing the number of high-speed AVE train links between Alicante and Madrid from December 11.
The high-speed service between the two cities will operate from Monday to Thursday, bringing the number of daily AVE trains between Alicante and the capital to 26, 13 in each direction, and increasing the availability of seats by 1,400 seats per week.
The trains will depart from Alicante at 7.40am and arrive at Madrid Chamartín Clara Campoamor at 10am, a journey that takes just 2 hours and 20 minutes as there are no intermediate stops.
According to Renfe, the new AVE service is being introduced to meet "passenger demand" for daily links between the cities, and tickets have gone of sale from today, Tuesday November 22.
The rail company said it's reinforcing the service "on those routes and at those times of day when demand is highest".
The increase in passengers on the high-speed trains linking Alicante with Madrid has been gradual, and travel figures show Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays are the days "with the highest demand due to a combination of professional reasons and weekend leisure and holidays".
For the moment, there is no update on the promised AVE between Alicante-Término and Atocha, which was promised when in September most of the AVE trains between Alicante and Madrid moved to Chamartín.
This has substantially increased and improved connections with Castilla y León and Galicia, but continues to generate complaints among Madrid-bound passengers over the time it takes to travel by Metro or Cercanías from Chamartín to Atocha.
