Man arrested in Benidorm after cocaine found hidden in his clothes near English area
A 26-year-old was stopped at a Policía Nacional checkpoint as part of wider operations
A 26-year-old man has been arrested in Benidorm after Policía Nacional officers found 119 grams of cocaine hidden in his clothes during a roadside checkpoint near the area known as the English zone. The arrest took place during a routine security operation when officers stopped a vehicle to conduct standard checks on both its occupants and the car. Police said they suspected one of the passengers might be carrying drugs and decided to search him.
“Two packets containing a white powder were found concealed within his clothing,” a police spokesperson explained. “Subsequent tests confirmed the substance to be cocaine, with a total weight of 119 grams.”Following the discovery, the man was detained on suspicion of drug trafficking. His arrest triggered a wider investigation into a possible network believed to be supplying drugs to nightlife venues in the English-speaking entertainment district.
As part of the investigation, two additional suspects were later arrested, and officers carried out two house searches where they seized further narcotic substances along with cash.
Sources said the main suspect has since been brought before the duty magistrate in Benidorm.
Policía Nacional confirmed that these checkpoints are part of ongoing operations designed to curb drug trafficking and other illegal activities across the city. “These controls are carried out regularly to ensure public safety and prevent the distribution and consumption of narcotics,” officials noted.
The preventive checks, set up at various locations, aim to strengthen security in busy tourist spots such as Benidorm’s English area, which sees a high number of visitors year-round. Police described the coordinated effort as an essential measure “to maintain peace and well-being within the community.”
