ARCHIVED - Patera with illegal immigrants onboard reaches cove in Javea
The boat was intercepted near a cove closed due to landslides in the Marina Alta, Alicante province.
Eleven irregular immigrants have been transported to Alicante port after a boat they were travelling in was intercepted at Ambolo cove in Javea - a "precarious" area that has been closed since 2009 due to landslides.
The boat was stopped by the Guardia Civil, supported by the Local Police on Wednesday afternoon, July 21, before Cruz Roja (Red Cross) volunteers carried out initial health checks.
The occupants, all men, though their origin is not clear, were given water and juice to rehydrate and said to be "in good health".
They will undergo PCR tests at Alicante port, and any who are positive will be quarantined.
At the end of June, three small boats reached the coast of the Marina Alta, two in Calpe with 30 occupants on board, and a third carrying 13 irregular immigrants was intercepted at the Barraca cove in Javea.
And on Monday, a patera with 14 people onboard reached Benidorm coastline, the neighbouring Marina Baixa comarca.
