Murcia Today turns 15 this year!
2024 is our fifteenth year bringing the latest news, upcoming events and local information in English for the foreign community in the Region of Murcia
This year, Murcia Today turns 15 years old. Yes, it has been 15 years since – from humble beginnings – Zoe and Laurence Cooper started this news website which aims to bring local information in English to the expat community, holidaymakers and those who don’t understand Spanish.
Back in 2009 when Murcia Today first started, there wasn’t much information about events, local affairs and Murcia life available in English, despite the Region of Murcia being a tourist hotspot. Over the last 15 years, the number of Brits, Germans, Norwegians, Dutch, Swedish and people of other nationalities living in Murcia has risen steadily, and Murcia Today has been there every step of the way to try and facilitate the flow of information from official and government sources to the interested foreign community.
We have since added Spanish News Today, Alicante Today and Andalucia Today to our roster, trying to bring local useful info to as many people as possible. And it is all thanks to you, our loyal readers. Without you reading our material, none of this would be possible.
Falling under the umbrella of the company Spain Today Online S.L., which was set up to accommodate this growth, we have weathered storms (both literal and metaphorical), other natural disasters and the hard period of lockdown during the Covid-19 pandemic. We’ve covered important local stories in Murcia such as the closure of the old San Javier airport and the opening of its replacement, Corvera; the arrival of the AVE high-speed rail to Murcia and loads more stories over the years.
And we’re not stopping! We pledge to continue bringing you the most important news and events from Murcia and across Spain. Remember we’ve got a FREE news bulletin which is sent out every Friday evening and contains all the week’s most important stories, and which you can sign up for here: https://murciatoday.com/weekly_bulletin.html
We also have a paid version which is emailed out at the same time and contains all these same stories, but with a friendly and funny roundup of the significance behind these stories and putting them in their right historical and cultural context. It costs just €36.95 for 48 bulletins over the course of a 12-month period, and you can sign up at any point during the year. Check out some recent examples that were sent out to our subscribers recently:
Thanks again to all of you, our loyal readers, for your continued support over the years and for the trust you place in us week in, week out. Let’s make 2024, our 15th year, the best yet!
