May 23 The Armed Man, A Mass For Peace by Karl Jenkins in Totana
An anti-war piece composed for the millennium celebrations in 1999
Welsh musician and composer Karl Jenkins wrote “The Armed Man”, subtitled "A Mass for Peace", in 1999 on a Royal Armouries Museum commission for the Millennium celebrations and to mark the moving of the museum from London to Leeds. It is dedicated to victims of the Kosovo crisis and is a profoundly anti-war piece based on the Catholic Mass, although Jenkins also draws inspiration from a 15th-century folk song entitled "L'homme armé".
This performance of the work by the Vox Musicalis group at the Las Tres Avemarías church in Totana begins at 21.15 on Friday 23rd May with admission free of charge.
