Jet2 launches exciting new flights between Alicante and the UK
The airline’s new British base will allow direct flights between London-Luton and the Costa Blanca
There’s more great news for travellers between the UK and Spain with the announcement this week that Jet2.com has launched its 13th British base in London-Luton, with a whopping 9 out of 17 operations having direct flights to Spanish airports.
This means that sun-seekers will soon have even more options to fly directly from the UK to the sun-kissed Costa Blanca region.
Starting April 1, 2025, Jet2 will offer up to four weekly flights from London-Luton to Alicante-Elche airport, making it easier than ever to soak up the Spanish sun.
For those looking to explore a little more of the country, the airline will also be flying to several other popular Spanish destinations including Girona, Reus, the Canary Islands and the Balearic Islands.
Jet2 will fly from Luton to Girona every Sunday, while passengers can head to Reus twice a week, on Mondays and Thursdays. In the Canary Islands, the airline plans to improve its connections with Fuerteventura, Lanzarote, Gran Canaria and Tenerife South. As for the Balearic Islands, it will now connect its new London base with both Ibiza and Menorca.
This news is a major boost for Alicante-Elche airport, which has just been confirmed as the fifth busiest airport in Spain. With 87% of its passengers being international travellers, the airport is set to welcome even more British visitors, who already make up the largest group of foreign visitors.
In fact, October 2024 saw a record 1,568,027 international passengers pass through the airport, with the UK contributing a staggering 594,284 travellers. Other top nationalities included the Netherlands, Germany and Norway.
Domestic traffic into and out of Alicante airport is also booming: 227,526 local passengers passed through the doors of the terminal last month, a 10.4% increase on 2023.
