ARCHIVED - Hospital admissions fall drastically: Valencia Covid update August 5
On a less positive note, the number of coronavirus-related deaths continues to rise in Alicante province and the rest of the region

For almost three consecutive weeks the all important Covid figures have fallen steadily, with a drastic drop in hospital admission reported in the latest update from the Regional Ministry of Health.
But whilst new cases are also down, the concerning death toll continues to rise with 44 fatalities reported since Tuesday, including a 29-year-old woman, although it´s unknown if she had any other underlying issues.
Coronavirus cases
The regional Ministry of Health has confirmed 2,495 new coronavirus cases since the last update on Tuesday August 2, a sharp fall from the 2,922 infections reported three days ago.
By provinces: 341 in Castellón (188,262 in total), 800 in Alicante (521,066 in total), 1,353 in Valencia (822,720 in total) and 1 unassigned.
Of these new cases, 1,264 are people over 60 years of age (down from 1,482 on Tuesday and 1,711 a week ago): Of the new cases since Tuesday, 187 from Castellón, 441 from Alicante and 636 from Valencia.
Hospitalisations
There are currently 871 Covid patients in hospitals across the Valencia region, 122 less than the last update, 52 of them in the ICU (two less): 142 in the province of Castellón, 2 in the ICU; 288 in the province of Alicante, 19 of them in the ICU; and 441 in the province of Valencia, 31 in the ICU.
Fatalities
Forty-four deaths have been reported since the last update, 10 more than were registered on Tuesday, all of which occurred within the last seven days except three on July 11, 13 and 19.
The deceased are 22 men aged between 58 and 93-years-old and 22 women aged between 29 and 103-years-old. This brings the total number of deaths since the start of the pandemic to 9,846: 1,161 in the province of Castellón, 3,757 in Alicante and 4,928 in Valencia.
