ARCHIVED - Downward trajectory continues: Valencia Covid update August 2
Important indicators are down but Covid-related deaths refuse to budge in Alicante province and the rest of the region
In line with the national trend, new infections and hospital admissions continue on a downward trajectory in the Valencia region, but coronavirus-related deaths remain concerningly high with a total of 166 fatalities reported in the last fortnight.
Coronavirus cases
The regional Ministry of Health has confirmed 2,922 new coronavirus cases since the last update on Friday July 29 ,down significantly on the 3,519 reported four days ago.
By provinces: 434 in Castellón (187,921 in total), 885 in Alicante (520,266 in total) and 1,603 in Valencia (821,367 in total).
Of these new cases, 1,482 are people over 60 years of age (down from 1,711: Of the new cases since Friday, 250 of Castellón, 457 of Alicante and 775 of Valencia.
Hospitalisations
There are currently 993 Covid patients in hospitals across the Valencia region, down from 13 from the last update, 54 of them in the ICU (six less): 163 in the province of Castellón, 3 in the ICU; 319 in the province of Alicante, 18 of them in the ICU; and 511 in the province of Valencia, 33 in the ICU.
Fatalities
Thirty-four deaths have been reported since the last update, all of which occurred within the last seven days except two; one on June 27 and one on July 27.
The deceased are 20 men aged between 48 and 96-years-old and 14 women aged between 81 and 100-years-old. This brings the total number of deaths since the start of the pandemic to 9,802: 1,156 in the province of Castellón, 3,738 in alicante and 4,908 in Valencia.
