ARCHIVED - High Court of Valencia authorises curfew in 68 municipalities until September 6
A curfew and 10-person limit on social gatherings will be in place in 68 municipalities across the region, including Alicante
The High Court of Valencia (TSJCV) has agreed to the regional government’s request to extend the night-time curfew and ten-person limit on social gatherings until September 6.
These measures, currently in place in 77 municipalities until August 16, will come into force in 68 municipalities, which all have over 5,000 inhabitants, across the Valencia region; 27 in Alicante; 32 in Valencia; and 9 in Castellón.
The municipalities affected in the province of Alicante are: l'Alfàs del Pi, Alicante, Almoradí, Altea, Aspe, Benidorm, Calpe, Campello, Cocentaina, Dénia, Dolores, Finestrat, La Nucia, Monforte del Cid, Monóvar, Mutxamel, Novelda, Onil, Pedreguer, Pego, Santa Pola, San Vicente del Raspeig, Sax, Teulada, Villajoyosa, Villena and Javea.
The High Court has decided that the curfew, from 1am to 6am, and the cap on social gatherings are “necessary” measures to curb outbreaks caused by large gatherings, such as ‘botellones’, which continue to be a problem for the local police in many municipalities, including Denia.
According to the Court, the measures are included under the “constitutional judgement of proportionality".
Representatives have also issued a reminder that, although the majority of new cases are amongst young people with milder symptoms, the fifth wave is still putting Primary Attention centres under pressure, with over 500 Covid patients in hospital according to the latest update.
