ARCHIVED - Street parties and fights in Denia continue despite Covid curfew
Several "botellón" parties took place in Denia in Alicante on Wednesday night
Despite the curfew in place from 1am to 6am, police in Denia in the Marina Alta area of Alicante are still having to intervene in numerous street parties and fights, mainly between young people.
On Wednesday night (August 11), calls were received concerning several street parties involving young people. These events are also known as ‘botellones’, disciplinary proceedings were initiated for breaking the curfew currently place in the municipality of Denia.
The largest of the botellones was located in Les Bassetes park, and despite the police’s efforts young people continue to gather in several locations in Denia to drink on the streets.
Officers also had to intervene in a fight outside a nightclub, where the police had to help a young person who sustained minor injuries after being attacked.
The aggressors then fled the scene in a car with a French licence plate and police have not yet been able to identify them.
The car park where the incident took place was outside the Sounders nightclub, which was still open as their license has been modified to include different kinds of activity.
The curfews across the region are in place until August 16, but this week the regional government has asked the High Court of Valencia for permission to extend the measure until September 6.
