ARCHIVED - Valencia regional government plans to extend curfew until September
The authorities want to extend the current restrictions in 68 municipalities across the region including various in the province of Alicante
The regional government of the Comunidad Valenciana has submitted a request to the High Court of Valencia (TSJCV) asking for permission to extend the night-time curfew in 68 municipalities until after the Fallas festivities in September.
Currently, there is a curfew from 1am until 6am in place in 77 municipalities until Monday, August 16, at 11.59pm, as well as measures restricting gatherings to ten people and forcing bars and restaurants to close at 12.30am. However, as enforcing curfews affects fundamental rights, the government need the High Court’s approval before they can extend the restriction, but it is likely the Court will agree with the measure as they have done on previous occasions.
An extension of the ten person maximum for social gatherings is also on the table, as are the obligatory closing times for the hospitality sector.
The new curfew would be in place until September 6, when the Valencia Fallas end; these yearly festivities are normally held in March, but have been postponed until September 1 to September 5 due to the pandemic.
According to the latest Covid update (August 11), the cumulative incidence rate per 100,000 people in the past 14 days in the Valencia region is 428.39; lower than the national incidence rate of 503.42 and among the lowest in Spain's 17 regions.
