Regional healthcare system still under strain with 583 Covid patients across the three provinces including Alicante
The latest Covid update in the region of Valencia reports 1,593 new cases of coronavirus and the latest cumulative incidence rate is 406.4, the third lowest in the country's 17 regions.
Despite not being among the regions with the highest cumulative incidence rates per 100,000 inhabitants in the past 14 days, the regional government in Valencia is still planning to extend night-time curfews until at least September.
The total number of positive Covid diagnoses since the start of the pandemic in the Comunidad Valenciana has now risen to 484,895, according to the data published on Thursday (August 12), with 750 new infections in the province of Alicante (174,653 in total), 694 in Valencia (260,053 in total), and 148 in Castellón (50,185 in total).
Meanwhile the active cases in the region have now decreased from 21,818 (figure reported on August 11) to 20,696 in the last 24 hours.
Recoveries: 2,709 patients have been given the all-clear, meaning 468,094 have recovered since the pandemic began; 166,604 in Alicante; 252,845 in Valencia; and 48,587 in Castellón.
Vaccines: the vaccine campaign in the region continues to advance and 3,540,523 people have received at least one dose of the vaccine, while 3,005,221 people have received both jabs, or the single-dose Janssen vaccine.
Fatalities: the latest data published by the Ministry of Health reports six Covid-related deaths in the past seven days.
Hospitalizations: despite the drop in the region’s incidence rate, the healthcare system is still under strain with 583 Covid patients across the three provinces, of whom 103 are in intensive care. By province: 195 in Alicante (30 in ICU); 313 in Valencia (57 in ICU); 75 in Castellón (16 in ICU).
