Half-price travel on Alicante city buses
A previous 30% discount on Alicante city bus passes has been increased by an additional 20%
From February 1, travellers on Alicante city buses will be eligible for 50% discount on multi-journey travel passes.
The move coincides with a region-wide extension of discounted public travel by bus and train until the end of 2023, approved by the Valencia Goverment, and free travel on Cercanías and Media Distancia trains, announced by the central government.
Last July, Alicante City Council cut bus travel by almost a third until January 31, 2023 to promote the use of public transport. And this week, it announced the discount will be increased to 50% from February 1 to July 31.
"This new measure, which will be in force for six months, has a twofold objective," said Councillor for Transport Manuel Villar. "To help Alicante residents to cope with the general increase in prices and to promote and raise awareness of the use of public transport, which also generates environmental benefits for everyone."
With this new discount, a 30-day pass for city buses will cost 20 euros, instead of the usual 40 euros, and eight euros less than with the current 30% discount.
The Móbilis Multiviaje voucher for the general public can be topped up with 10 journeys for 4.35 euros, half the original 8.70 (it currently costs 6.05 with the existing discount).
The 4/30 Youth Route voucher will cost 7.50 euros from February 1, and the Móbilis Jove voucher for young people aged 16-30 can be topped up with 30 journeys for 10.60 euros (there's a limit of three top-ups per month).
The half price discount will also apply to the Móbilis Oro vouchers for the over 65s and the Móbilis Escolar for schoolchildren aged between 5 and 15.
"The initial discount was implemented to respond to the economic and social consequences of the war in Ukraine, to address situations of social and economic vulnerability and for the recovery of the island of La Palma," said the councillor for transport.
"We believe cutting the price further is a convenient and necessary decision that is justified for reasons of public and general interest," he added.
