ARCHIVED - Discounted public transport in the Valencia region to be extended until the end of 2023

The 30% reduction in train and bus travel on the Costa Blanca was originally scheduled to finish at the end of this year

President of the Valencia Government, Ximo Puig, has pledged to extend discounted public travel by bus and train until the end of 2023, rather than December 31, 2022 as was originally planned.

On Thursday October 20 he announced that the regional budgets for 2023 will include a 12-month extension of the 30% discount which will coincide with free travel on Cercanías and Media Distancia trains, announced by the central government earlier this month.

Discounted travel was announced in September, along with free travel for under 30s until the end of the year. This, too, has been extended, but only until January 15 for the moment.

During a speech at the Valencian Parliament, Puig also acknowledged the need to improve the quality of public transport, by renewing fleets and improving frequencies, and once again assured that the 2023 regional budget will include the Denia-Gandia, Orihuela-Torrevieja sections and the Alicante-Elche 'Miguel Hernández' airport connection.
