ARCHIVED - Fall in incidence rate stabilises: Valencia Covid update March 18
Active cases and the incidence rate in the Valencia region have plateaued

Whilst there hasn't been a notable upturn in new infections in the Valencia region, there hasn't been much of a decline either. In fact the health situation appears to have plateaued.
Bearing in mind the regional Ministry of Health is only publishing updates on Tuesdays and Fridays, it's difficult to make clear daily comparisons, but the 14-day cumulative incidence has wavered around 270-280 cases per 100,000 all week, and currently stands at 277.6.
However, Covid-related fatalities have certainly fallen in the week the Valencia Government announced it was scrapping the Covid passport at nursing homes, the last stronghold, and abolishing the requirement to keep a spare seat between groups in cinemas and theatres.
Coronavirus cases
The regional Ministry of Health has reported 3,925 new cases since the last update on Tuesday March 15 when 4,768 new daily infections were recorded (over A four day period). This brings the total number of positives since the beginning of the pandemic to 1,324,211 people.
By province: 300 have been reported in Castellón (158,679 in total), 1,326 in Alicante (461,306) and 2,299 in Valencia (704,222). The number of unassigned cases remains at four.
According to the health data, there are currently 15,636 active cases, up slightly from 15,467 on Tuesday which represents 1.17% of the total positives.
Hospitalisations
There are currently 484 people admitted to hospital with Covid, down from 512, 39 of them in ICU (seven fewer than on Tuesday): 69 in the province of Castellón, two in ICU; 152 in the province of Alicante, 16 of them in ICU; and 263 in the province of Valencia, 21 in ICU.
3,749 people have overcome the virus since the last update, which means the total number of recoveries since the start of the pandemic now stands at 1,310,884.
By provinces, the recoveries are distributed as follows: 157,631 in Castellón, 455,835 in Alicante and 697,359 in Valencia. The number of unassigned cases stands at 59.
Fatalities
Seven Covid-related deaths have been reported since the last update. All of the deaths occurred in the last seven days with the exception of one in December, and bring the overall death toll since the start of the health crisis in the Valencia region to 9,132: 1,055 in the province of Castellón, 3,481 in Alicante and 4,596 in Valencia.
The deceased are four women aged between 82 and 93-years-old and three men aged between 60 and 91.
