Dutch woman goes on stabbing spree in Torrevieja restaurant
The woman injured a postman, a waiter and a diner in the bustling Costa Blanca city

A knife-wielding Dutch woman caused widespread panic on Tuesday December 9 when she attacked staff and diners at two restaurants in the Rocío del Mar urbanisation in Torrevieja.
According to eyewitnesses, the suspect, reportedly in her 50s, was visibly agitated and upset when she arrived at the bustling social hub at around 8.30pm. She made her way to the El Botijo bar, where she brandish the knives and even threatened a customer before stealing his phone. Once back on the street, the Dutch woman stabbed a postman in the forearm as she passed him.
She then entered a Chinese restaurant called Yoku on nearby Avenida de las Olas, where she cut a waiter’s hand and slashed a customer in the chest.
Two of the victims were treated by medics at the scene but the waiter had to be rushed to Torrevieja University Hospital where he will undergo surgery.
The first to arrive at the scene were two patrols from the Orihuela Costa Local Police, as the Rocío del Mar residential area is located on the border between the municipalities of Orihuela and Torrevieja. The officers managed to calm and detain the aggressor until the arrival of the Torrevieja Local Police patrols.
Following her arrest, the woman was handed over to the Guardia Civil and is scheduled to be evaluated by a psychiatrist to determine if she suffers from any mental health problems.
The motive behind the attack is unknown.
