British tourist robbed of 6k gold chain by Benidorm hugger mugger
The love thief had been arrested several in the Marina Baixa area for similar crimes
A crafty thief has been arrested by the National Police in Benidorm for stealing from a British man who was waiting for a taxi. The woman reportedly used the ‘hugger mugger’ or ‘love thief’ method: she approached her victim in a friendly manner and began touching and flirting with the man in order to distract him.
With the man’s attention elsewhere, the robber was able to slip a gold chain, worth around 6,000 euros, from around his neck. She also swiped 600 euros in cash.
The British holidaymaker, unaware that he had been robbed, rejected the woman’s advances and hoped into a taxi. It was only when he arrived back at his hotel that he noticed the money and expensive jewellery were missing.
The next day, the victim returned to the scene of the crime and although there was no sign of the thief, he did speak to another woman who claimed to know her. Incredibly, she had seen photos of the woman on social media wearing the stolen necklace.
Armed with this new information, the Briton reported the theft to the National Police, who soon identified the culprit as a 39-year-old Bulgarian woman with a string of previous arrests for similar crimes.
Although the perpetrator was arrested, the British man’s valuable gold chain has yet to be recovered.
Back in August, police in Alicante arrested a notorious criminal who was wanted for countless thefts using the hugger mugger method all across Spain.
According to police information, the Costa Blanca love thief had filched around 5,000 euros worth of jewellery, often offering sexual favours to her victims before robbing them.
