A British fugitive wanted in the UK for drug trafficking and membership of a criminal organisation has been captured in Benidorm.

The 41-year-old was wanted for extradition by Interpol for his alleged involvement in the distribution and smuggling of narcotic substances such as cocaine, heroin, cannabis, ketamine and methamphetamine.

Officers from the National Police's Prevention and Reaction Unit inadvertently caught up with the elusive criminal whilst carrying out a daily prevention checkpoint near Benidorm's theme park area.

Having stopped the Brit on his motorbike, officers checked his identity and discovered he was subject to an arrest and extradition warrant and he was detained.

The case has been handed over to Benidorm's Central Court of Instruction which will be in charge of carrying out the relevant extradition procedures.
