ARCHIVED - Three French holidaymakers in custody over gang-rape of teen tourist in Torrevieja
A fourth male was also arrested in connection with the alleged multiple rape at a flat in the Vega Baja coastal town, Alicante province

Four people have been arrested in connection with the alleged gang-rape of an 18-year-old female Nordic tourist in Torrevieja.
Two 19-year-olds and a third, aged 22, all allegedly French citizens, have been remanded in custody, while a 30-year-old who was in the flat when the sexual assault took place, but didn't participate or help the victim, has been released.
According to the Guardia Civil, the young victim had gone out for dinner with a friend in the Marina Salinas leisure area of Torrevieja on September 8. At some point in the evening, the 18-year-old was left alone in a pub after her friend went home.
As she made her way back to her holiday apartment, she was approached by one of the now imprisoned men. He struck up a conversation with her and they walked together until they came to the flat where he was holidaying with friends.
After allegedly being lured into the apartment, the young woman was raped by the man who had approached her and two other males. Following the horrific assault, the Nordic tourist, who had lost her purse and mobile phone earlier in the evening, managed to flee the flat and ran into the street where she was helped by passers-by who took her to the Guardia Civil HQ.
The victim was taken to a nearby hospital and the Women-Minor Team (Emume) of the Alicante Command immediately launched an investigation. During a police interview, the young woman was able to give descriptions and told officers she had heard her attackers say they were going water skiing.
Investigators reconstructed the route followed by the victim on the night of the assault and came across a jet ski rental company, where a member of staff confirmed four males had rented skis that morning.
A search was then made of tourist hotels and apartments in the area and all four were arrested whilst eating lunch at a local bar-restaurant within 24 hours of the assault.
The investigation was carried out in collaboration with the French authorities, through the Customs Police Cooperation Centre and Europol. All four appeared before the Court of Instruction in Torrevieja where a judge ordered the imprisonment of three of them for alleged rape. The fourth, accused as an accomplice, was released with charges. He is prohibited to leave Spain and must appear before the court every 15 days.
