ARCHIVED - Benidorm opens new park-and-ride facility in busy tourism district
The new car park in Benidorm's Rincón de Loix area has a capacity for around 300 vehicles

Benidorm has reinforced its 7,000-plus free parking space portfolio with the opening of a new park-and-ride facility in one of the coastal town's busiest tourism districts.
A lack of parking in the Rincón de Loix district has been a frustrating problem for some time and with the imminent construction of the area's new health centre, the issue would only have been exacerbated further.
To alleviate the shortage of adequate spaces for residents and visitors alike, Benidorm Town Hall reached an agreement with the owners of several plots located on Avenida Almirall Bernat de Sarrià, next to the Pueblo street market, to create a new car park close to other transport links.
And on Wednesday January 24, the new facility became fully operational, adding to the list of 40-plus free car parks in the resort.
The parking lot covers an area of 7,067 m2, with capacity for about 300 vehicles and will also serve the future Rincon de Loix health centre.
The land will be used as a park-and-ride facility until the development of the Ensanche Levante urbanisation begins, which includes these particular plots.
The entire area has been fenced off and public lighting installed to avoid shady or poorly lit areas. There is also surveillance "to prevent illegal dumping of rubble and waste", according to municipal sources.
Benidorm Mayor, Toni Perez, explained: "The aim was to add new free parking spaces, but also to improve cleanliness and the general appearance of the Rincón area, a district with important tourist attractions including its market, and several hotels, and in which British tourism dominates," said the mayor, adding that the facility is the "first phase of a project to create park and ride facilities in the Rincón de Loix".
Last September, the Town Hall opened a free 100-car park in the Levante area bringing the number of spaces available to the public in this hugely popular area alone to 400.
