ARCHIVED - Benidorm unveils new free car park in the popular Levante area of the Costa Blanca resort
100 new free spaces are now available on a plot of land in Benidorm's Calle Jaén
A new free 100-space car park has been opened to the public in the Levante area of Benidorm today (Monday September 5), on a 2,600 m2 plot of land at the end of Calle Jaén, between calles Cuenca and Mallorca.
A little paving work still needs to be done, but the facility is complete and brings the number of parking spaces available in this popular district to 400.
As with other public car parks, the Town Hall reached an agreement with the owner of the plot to make the land suitable for use by motorists.
"It is a formula that allows us to add more parking spaces in different areas of the town as part of a continued commitment to sustainable mobility that we started years ago," explained Councillor for Mobility, José Ramón González de Zárate.
"We had received many complaints from neighbours about this land, which was neglected and needed cleaning up. That is why we reached an agreement with the owner to adapt it and add more free public parking spaces," he added.
In addition to clearing and resurfacing, the Town Hall has created entry and exit points, installed exterior lighting and erected new signage to "improve the overall image".
A new single platform has been implemented at the section outside the Cultural Centre, giving priority to pedestrians, along with a further line of parking spaces for residents and visitors to the Levante area.
"The opening of this car park completes an offering of 400 free public parking spaces in the Levante area and coincides with the start of roadworks in Avenida Beniardá which will be cut to traffic in its upper part for 10 months from September 12 whilst work is carried out," added the Councillor for Mobility.
