ARCHIVED - Benidorm begins major summer clean-up preparations ahead of influx of tourists
The Costa Blanca coastal resort has ramped up its cleaning and rubbish collection workforce for the summer holiday season

Largely considered to be the tourist capital of the Costa Blanca, Benidorm's summer population is expected to increase three-fold during the height of the holiday season in July and August.
And to ensure the hugely popular resort is prepared for the mammoth tourist rush, the Town Hall has ramped up its street cleaning and rubbish collection workforce with the recruitment of 51 extra staff.
The cleaning fleet has also been boosted with an additional two rubbish collection vans and extra shifts have been added in the morning and afternoons to clean and pressure wash pavements. During the night, a cleaning team will hit the streets to do the same and spruce up leisure areas, parks and gardens for the early risers.

Benidorm's street cleaning councillor, José Ramón González de Zárate, explained that special attention is also being given to the Colonia Madrid, Alfredo Corral and Pescadores neighbourhoods, as well as calles Maravall and Juan Antonio Baldoví with additional street sweeping.
And extra waste collection shifts have been introduced in the popular areas of Rincón de Loix and La Cala.
"Cleaning and waste collection will be reinforced at all entrances to Benidorm to meet the increase resulting from the high season. We will attend to all the needs of the resort so that both tourists and residents can enjoy themselves to the fullest this summer".
