ARCHIVED - Benidorm once again requests ownership of section of N-332
The town council has slammed the Valencia government for failing to respond to a request 13 months ago
Benidorm Town Hall will once again ask the Valencia region's Ministry of Public Works to transfer free ownership of a section of the N-332 national motorway that runs through the town between kilometre points 149.2 and 152.36.
The first request, which was approved in plenary in October 2020, "has not had any response from the Ministry," according to Councillor for Mobility, José Ramón González de Zárate, despite amendments.
"After the first refusal of the Ministry, we modified the request and sent it again, but since then, a year later, they have done nothing. They haven't even replied to this or two requests for meetings," he added.
The councillor claims that "this attitude" demonstrates that "neither the Government nor the Ministry think about Benidorm, its businesses, its citizens or tourists who visit us".
And he has pointed out that neighbouring municipalities, such as Alfaz del Pi and Altea, requested the transfer of a section of the same road as it passes through the two towns "and in less than a month" they had been granted.
"Why not Benidorm? It is clear that it is a political question," claimed Zárate.
Should the N-332 belong to Benidorm?
Benidorm Town Hall argues that ownership of the section of road in question can be transferred "because the road traffic is mostly urban and because there is an alternative road that maintains the continuity of the State Road Network providing a better level of service".
The latest proposal to be submitted to the plenary also states that the change of ownership of this section would not entail any transfer of capital or personal or material resources by the Ministry, but would allow Benidorm Council to "assume all the powers arising from the ownership" and be responsible for its maintenance.
