ARCHIVED - One dead and foreigner seriously hurt after car smashes into building on the N-332 Oliva
The vehicle is believed to have been travelling at more than 100km/h before the horror crash on the N-332 in the Marina Alta town, Alicante province
A 52-year-old man from Oliva has been killed and a foreign passenger, 53, seriously injured after a "high-speed" crash into the side of a workshop on the N-332 shortly after 6am on Sunday November 7.
The horror smash happened close to Oliva petrol station on the town border with Denia and, according to sources, the car was travelling in a northerly direction, entering Oliva at more than 100km/h.
It's not clear why the vehicle was going so fast, but the driver reportedly lost control on a bend and crashed into the side of a building in Calle Papa Pio XII, causing extensive damage to the wall.
The Emergency Information and Coordination Centre (CICU) mobilised a SAMU and Basic Life Support (SVB) ambulance, supported by a doctor, a firefighting crew from Gandia and Oliva Local Police.
On arrival, firefighters had to release both men the wreckage, and tragically medics were only able to get one of the occupants out alive, while the other, a 52-year-old resident of Oliva, was confirmed dead.
The surviving occupant, believed to be Eastern European, was taken to Gandia Hospital with multiple trauma.
The fatal crash on the N-332 occurred less than a week after a 56-year-old pedestrian lost his life in Pedregeur after being hit on the same road, considered one of the most dangerous in Spain and the scene of frequent accidents.
