Another Alicante beach bans smoking this summer
Albir beach in L'Alfàs del Pi will go smoke-free for the first time

L'Alfàs del Pi has become the latest Alicante town to crack down on tobacco, banning smoking on Albir beach this coming summer. This commitment was announced by the mayor of Alfàs del Pi, Vicente Arques, at the launch of the ‘Live Healthy Alfàs’ campaign, which was delivered to a packed auditorium at the weekend.
Last summer, Benidorm jumped on the smoke-free bandwagon and banned cigarettes in the accessible areas of both Levante and Poniente beaches, two of the most famous shorelines in the tourist capital of the Costa Blanca.
L'Alfàs del Pi has been working for years to establish itself as a healthy international tourism destination and the mayor believes the new smoking ban will help put the municipality on the map.
L'Alfàs is already a benchmark in health and wellness tourism in countries such as Norway, the United Kingdom, Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany, according to a report by the University of Alicante.
The municipality was specifically chosen as a residence or vacation spot for its quality of life, tranquillity, population density, cultural and sports offerings and its privileged environmental setting - all of which make this town in the Marina Baixa a top-tier health tourism destination.
