Alicante Airport voted best in Europe for the second year running
The Costa Blanca airport topped the category of aerodromes handling between 15 and 25 million passengers annually
For the second consecutive year, Alicante-Elche Airport has been named the best airport in Europe in its category of between 15 and 25 million annual passengers, according to the International Airport Council (ACI). The Costa Blanca aerodrome has received this prestigious award for the fourth time, having previously won in 2022, 2020, and 2019.
The ACI's award program places significant importance on the passenger experience, using survey results to evaluate airport amenities and services. Key factors considered include accessibility, facilities, staff, security and wait times at checkpoints.
Laura Navarro, the airport's director, explained that in recent months "we have implemented numerous measures to have a more inclusive and also more attractive airport."
"We want to be part of the travel experience in a very positive way, always working hand in hand with the airlines and tourist administrations and institutions,” she added.
The award, Ms Navarro said, "represents recognition of our efforts to put the passenger at the centre of our operations, adapting our facilities and services to the needs of the users who pass through the terminal."
Alicante airport is not alone in its success, as nine other airports managed by Aena have received recognition in their respective categories. Barcelona has been recognised as the best airport with more than 40 million passengers, while Palma de Mallorca has won the award for the 25-40 million passenger category. Other winning airports include Menorca, Girona, Almería, Reus, the Region of Murcia and El Hierro.
The award will be presented to Alicante Airport reps at the ACI World Customer Experience Summit and Expo in Atlanta in September.
