ARCHIVED - 500 euros returned to owner after Pilar de Horadada local finds and hands it in
Police in the Vega Baja, Alicante province, praise honest resident who discovered wad of cash.
An "extremely grateful" man in Pilar de Horadada has been reunited with €510 in cash after a local discovered the money in a town bank and immediately handed it in to the police.
The heartwarming story has been shared by the local police on their social networks, with a picture of the delighted man getting his money back.
The photo is captured with deserved praise for the honest local, and the words: "Many things can be learned from this".
After withdrawing the cash at a branch in the municipality, the man apparently placed it in his bag, but absentmindedly left the bank without it.
Another local spotted the discarded bag and took it, along with the wedge of notes inside, to the police who then set about locating whoever it belonged to. His relief at getting the large sum of money back is clearly spread across his face, despite the obligatory facemask.
Last week, Orihuela Local Police, also in the Vega Baja, revealed that they are trying to trace the owner of €30,000 found in the town. It hasn't been revealed whether they have managed to do so yet, but in the event that no one has claimed it within two years, "it will be awarded to the peson who found it", according to Spain's Civil Code.
