Valencia Fallas prize awarded to seduction tableau

One of the most important events of the annual Fallas festival in the city of Valencia took place on Thursday evening, when the judges announced that the prize for best Falla of 2017 has been won by the huge papier maché structure entitled “Enterna seducció”, designed by artist Julio Monterrubio and built by the “L‘Antiga de Campanar” group.
This stylish tableau paying tribute to seduction is 22 metres high, includes 30 different figures, and cost the small matter of 175,000 euros to build. In the first Fallas since the festival was declared an event of Intangible World Heritage, the judges have awarded the most prestigious prize to a monument which represents a beautiful woman who seduces a rich knight.
The second and third prizes were won this year by the Pilar group with “Que li tallen el cap” and the Convento Jerusalén-Matemático Marzal, with “Bienvenidos a Bollywood”.
The Fallas end on Sunday night with the ceremonial burning of the structures which have adorned the streets of Valencia over the last week.
