March passenger numbers up by 8.4 per cent at Alicante-Elche airport
42 per cent of passengers at the El Altet airport were on UK flights
The increase in the number of flights available to and from Alicante-Elche airport this year was matched by rising passenger numbers during March, when 907,603 people passed through the terminal on their way into and out of the Costa Blanca.
After year-on-year increases of well over 10% in both January and February this represents a smaller rise of 8.4% in the third month of 2017, but it has to be taken into account that last year Easter fell in March and the summer scheduling was introduced earlier as a result.
Even so, the cumulative total after the first quarter of the year at the airport in El Altet reached almost 2.28 million passengers, 11.7% higher than at the same point in 2016.
As is always the case, the largest single share of traffic at Alicante-Elche San Javier in March consisted of flights to and from the UK: these services carried 386,921 passengers during the month (42.6% of the total), while the other major sources of passengers were domestic flights (13.1%) and those serving travelers between the Costa Blanca and the Netherlands (7.6%), Germany (6%), Norway (5.8%), Belgium (5.3%) and Sweden (3.7%).
