ARCHIVED - Work begins on new residential and commercial area in Alicante
The 4.5 million euro project will transform the Avenida de Benidorm area in Sant Joan d'Alacant on the Costa Blanca
The first phase of 4.5 million euro project to create space for residential and development in the Avenida de Benidorm area of Sant Joan d'Alacant begins this week, a major scheme that will open up almost 130,000 sqm of land for shopping centres, restaurants, gyms, schools, health centres, parks, residential use and parking.
"The bulk of the work from Friday November 5 will be focused on carrying out the basic infrastructure to provide services to the new plots generated, which involves carrying out the channelling of water, gas, electricity, telecommunications, sanitation and new green areas," explained Councillor for Planning, Eva Delgado.
The multi-million-euro proposal, given the green light last week, was presented by the company Alga Promociones Inmobiliarias S.A., which will act as developer, and the works have been awarded to the company BECSA with a completion period of 12 months.
"The development in this area of Sant Joan (San Juan) will generate a new area of tertiary land, as well as new areas for residential use and green zones, connecting the sports centre and the tertiary use area of UA6 with the centre whilst improving both pedestrian and bicycle access," added Delgado.
At the same time, the works will connect Avenida Miguel Hernández with the sports centre, surrounding areas and the town centre.
