Wild boar running into the road have caused a third road traffic accident in Denia in less than a year.

The latest crash happened on the CV-725, also known as the Ondara road and the main access to Denia, on Thursday afternoon, April 21, and although extensive damage was caused to the car, the driver was unharmed.

Denia Local Police have confirmed a wild boar ran onto the busy dual carriageway just before 3.30pm and was struck by a passing vehicle. It's not clear whether the animal survived or not.

This is the third accident involving boar in the municipality in less than 12 months. The most serious occurred on the CV-725 at the AP-7 exit at Onara last June causing a three-car pile up (pictured). A driver tried to swerve around the animal crossing the road but was unable to avoid it, running over the boar and careering into two other cars. Three people were injured and there were long traffic delays during peak travel time.

Two cars were involved in another incident involving wild boar in December last year, with the drivers sustaining slight injuries.

Wild boar frequently cause accidents and during Covid lockdown there were increased reports of sightings in urban areas. Their presence has also sparked concerns from farmers and walkers who claim to have been attacked.
