ARCHIVED - Multiple car crash due to wild boar on N-332 near Denia on the Costa Blanca
Three people were injured in the multiple crash at the AP-7 access in Ondara near Denia in the Marina Alta, Alicante province.
Three vehicles were involved in a multiple crash after a wild boar wandered onto the N-332 at the AP-7 access in Ondara, 8km from Denia, this morning (Wednesday, June 16).
According to firefighters from the Alicante Provincial Consortium, the boar had attempted to cross the busy road before being struck by one of the cars.
The boar remained trapped under the vehicle as two other cars collided with it.
One of the drivers had to be freed from their vehicle after the pile-up that left three injured, two of whom have been taken to hospital.
The accident caused significant traffic jams and prompted the deployment of numerous firefighters and road maintenance personnel to clear the area and get traffic moving again.
It's not clear whether the animal survived, but judging by the severity of the crash it's unlikely.
Wild boar frequently cause accidents and there have been increased reports of these being in urban areas since the start of the Covid lockdowns, due to the number of boar coming into urban areas to search through rubbish bins for food!
A female boar with piglets is an entertaining sight, but one which town authorities are keen to prevent on their streets.
Last week, a woman died and three other people were injured in a head-on collision between two cars near Santa Pola on the N-332, which is considered one of the most dangerous roads in Spain, and often the scene of accidents as it runs through large stretches of urban coastal areas with a high density of occupation and heavy traffic.
Earlier this week, a miraculous rescue occurred involving a dog in Málaga which was hit by a car on the A-7 and became wedged underneath the vehicle where it remained for two days before being detected!
Incredibly the dog was not seriously injured.
