Covid cases have rebounded considerably in the Valencia region over the last three weeks, which is taking its toll on hospitals where admissions are also on the rise once again, while experts are warning that Spain is entering its eighth wave.

Nationally, Covid hospital occupancy has now exceeded 5%, having grown by more than a point in a week, a threshold that shifts the country from a level of controlled circulation to low risk, according to the Ministry of Health.

According to the latest data, released last Friday, between June 28 and July 1, a total of 8,789 new cases of coronavirus were confirmed: 756 in Castellón (180,568 in total), 2,632 in Alicante (505,653 in total) and 5,401 in Valencia (790,876 in total).

In addition, hospital pressure increased from 905 to 993 people admitted with coronavirus, 42 of them in the ICU.

For this reason, in a bid to speed up the process of vaccination so that the entire population is fully inoculated, Valencia's Ministry of Health is reopening walk-in jab points across the region throughout July.

"The aim is to make it easier for all those people who are waiting to receive a dose of the vaccine, either because they have had the disease or for any other reason, to go to any of the vaccination points to get a jab without an appointment," explained the Ministry.

"We want to speed up the process so that the entire population can have the full schedule according to the criteria established in the Covid vaccination calendar."

Where are the walk-in vaccination points?

Alicante province

El Escorratel in Orihuela on Wednesday July 6, 3pm to 8pm:

Benidorm Specialities Centre at the Department of Marina Baixa – a walk-in vaccination point is open every other week from 4pm to 8pm.

The University Hospital of Torrevieja – new walk-in vaccination days are scheduled for the week of July 11.

Valencia province

Ador Health Centre is open Monday July 4 to Friday July 8, from 1.30pm to 3pm.

Corea Health Centre in Gandia is also open this week from 12.30pm to 2.30pm.

Malva-Rosa Hospital will be open until Friday July 8, from 4pm to 8.30pm.

These walk-in points are in addition to vaccinations by appointment that continue to be offered in all health departments, such as the Hospital General Universitario Dr. Balmis in Alicante where jabs are administered by appointment from Monday to Friday.
